A #Troika #Quadrilla: Hawk-haunted “Rook-Delighting Heaven”

I take on not one, not two, but three challenges at once with a form I’ve never used before! For Carpe Diem’s Weekend Meditation 5,

The last stanza is my favorite:

    “bidding farewell
    a parliament
    flies”

I enjoyed both troiku very much…the inspiration from the month with Yeats fit amazingly well…as did the exile kicked away (for dverse).

At least watching the battle makes the leaf raking more entertaining. Ha. Actually I enjoy the menial tasks like leaf raking and dishwashing, I find them very meditational.

I love squirrels too, but I feel like I am missing something deeper there. Political? The parliament made me think that. Or is a group of flies a parliament. I tried googling but got nothing.

Thanks, X! Btw, a parliament is one name for a group of rooks! 😉

I liked the one about writing haiku between raking leaves. That would be a nice time for inspiration to come.

And who said that multi-tasking is impossible?!
I’m a bird-a-holic, so I really appreciate all of the allusions in this wonderful poem.
I must confess, I may have nightmares over your leaf-racking, though. Bad memories there 😉

I like your image of the warrior rooks. I should show them more respect.

Oddly, or perhaps not, every action & adventure deepens. expands my poetic base–that’s why poets make good war correspondents.

New form for me….amazing. Especially these words:
    “Between battle and peace
    an exile
    kicked away”
These three lines are quite powerful, especially given the politics of the day. And the “battle” need not be one of guns…rather roses and rose-tinted words!

I do love the narrative in the second one… especially the parliament of flies in the end… of course the hawk has to eat too (and the flies) but I can still feel sorry for the squirrel

I love how you combined the prompts here Frank and both troiku have a lot of depth – I love the first one especially ;o)

    I especially like this:
    “falling to the ground
    this heaven-sent
    hawk”
This morning I watched a Northern Flicker that seemed to do just that and then swooped to a rooftop. Good work combining them all.

Nice, Frank! I like how you drew inspiration from Chevrefeuille and Basho but it reflects your own observations as in “between raking oak leaves.”
