#Haikai Challenge #12 (12/17/17): Winter Solstice #haiku #senryu #haibun #tanka #haiga #renga

Look who ran the gauntlet of last week’s Haikai Challenge:

qbit– Haiku–Ever Falling Green Snow

Jules Paige– Light; opaque obstructions

Charley– Haiku: Snow on Evergreen

Jilly– Perennial

Petru– Tanka

Xenia Trans– Haiku: First Snow ; Haibun: Waves of Colour

Linda Lee Lyberg– #Haiku: Dichotomy

revivedwriter– Evergreen

Zander– City Snow

Jane Dougherty– Haiku Challenge: Evergreen first snow

Vivian Zems– What’s This?

Toni Spencer– First Snow: hatsuyuki

Eufemia Griffo– Otata, December 1

Congratulations, all!

Now, to this week’s challenge!

Christmas is eight days away. It’s the first holiday of winter. Even with snow on the ground here in New York, however, it is still fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Until December 21st–the Winter Solstice! The transition of seasons happens this Thursday. Therefore, dear haijin, write the haikai poem of your choice using the Winter Solstice as your kigo!

UPDATE: I have added a Mister Linky! Hat Tip to Jilly and Toni for their encouragement!

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. Write your haikai poem (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, renga, etc.)
2. Add the link to your haikai poem to Mister Linky (see below).
3. Comment, then read and comment on the poems of other participants.

Stay warm, haikai poets!

😆. Can you customize your button Linky? Their website suggested I couldn’t if I use it with a free WordPress site.

Says I have to have 'http://&#39 in front of my link??
Do you know what that means?
I haven’t had to do that with any other Mr. Linky things.

        OK it worked now…
I do have a question… will you add a Mr. Linky to your previous prompts. I think (even if not on the compilation list…) I’d like to go back and hunt them down (unless you make a prompt page of links for them… ) and have a go at them. Just so I could be ‘all in’ so to speak.

I’m not planning on adding a Mr. Linky to my previous challenges. You can find them by clicking on my tag Haikai Challenge, located on the sidebar of my blog. A simple pingback on those will do. Thanks for your interest! Look forward to seeing more of your poetry!

Yes, the challenge is usually on Saturday, but I occasionally post it on Sunday if I can’t find time on Saturday.

I’ll keep a look out then. I think the first one I did was posted on a Sunday… so I waited until then to look… and saw it was Saturday. 🙂

Tad hectic in December. I’ll back track eventually. Thanks again for hosting.
