The Spring and Winter continue to dual in the Northeastern United States, haijin! Snow fell Thursday morning and melted away by Thursday afternoon. Nevertheless, the cold fights a rearguard action against the march of warmth.

Congratulations to last week’s contributors:

Now, for this week’s challenge!

A single daffadil blooms in my backyard garden. According to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, daffodils and Cherry trees blossom around the same time. What better way can haijin mark the spring but by celebrating the coming Cherry Blossom season!

Your kigo this week, therefore, is [first] cherry blossom (hatsu hana). Write the haikai poem of your choice that states or alludes to [first] cherry blossom (hatsu hana).

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Fair blossom gazing, haijin!

The original tree was supposed to be a non-fruit ornamental weeping cherry… but it lost it’s weep – and bore fruit – until it got knocked over…

Even with a large yard there is only so much room – But I enjoy my shade. And the forsythia are blooming now too. Lovely little yellow blossoms.

Spring is sooo close. Cheers, all.
