Onward!

June has arrived! A high of eighty-something farenheight is expected in my area, and the humidity already oppresses me. Summer emerges from the ambiguities of spring, even if sixty-something forecasts loom.

With the warmth comes the late bloomers. The beautiful purple rainment of the peonies capture the eye in our flowerbeds front and back. Such a beautiful blossom, and yet the stems already sag under the weight of its large flower. Its such an apt embodiment of the passing moment: so full, and already fading!

This week, write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that includes or alludes to the peony (botan)

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Savor the beauty, haijin, even as it slips away!

The flowers, afraid of the power of the empress, all bloomed, except for the peony. This enraged the empress, who ordered that the peony be moved to the city Luoyang. Since then, the plant has flourished there. […]

There is more than one story for the beautiful flower. I can only hope I have done it justice in my brevity of the Greek tragedy of jealous gods and transformations here (at the post are my notes and links) :
