Of Medicinal Malice and Momentary Humanity: A #TankaTuesday (on a Wednesday) #TankaProse

Somewhere in south Texas, a child cries. Uniformed men pulled him from his screaming mother’s arms, and brought him far away. He sits by a cot, surrounded by other crying children.

behind bars   the mockingbirds everyone ignores

Somewhere in Washington DC, a senior aide to the President of the United States looks at a polling report, and smiles. He contemplates the necessity of a strong response to the crisis at the border. One could be forgiven for wondering whether he views the seperation of children from their parents as chemotherapy battling a longstanding tumor.

“Suffer the little children to come unto me”   forgotten

Everywhere in the nation, and around the world, the images of children in cages, the sounds of screaming mothers. The mounting pressure, as the wise tremble for their country realizing God is just, and outcry arises from every corner. It’s enough for the architect of this medicinal malice to relent, saying, “I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated … ”

Yes. To admit our humanity will require more than opening doors. It will require memory. I love tension that point to this. Well might we fear justice from God. I would welcome mercy.

You have written it so well. Shared humanity. A concept i hope humankind can understand globally before it’s too late. Well done, Frank.

This is just so sad. I mentioned an idea to Sherry about every poet from across the world on WordPress writing and posting on the same day, at the same time, poems that express our feelings about this barbarity. I’m just not sure how to go about it.

Wherever children are affected by inhuman acts- in war zones, in occupied territories, in places so far away we barely know them… I wish the world finds a collective spirit to help them so they are safe with their families.

Love your response to the madness. You have written it to appeal to those who are still human.

Sadly we don’t want to share the world we have but build up walls and punish those that ask for asylum or a chance to contribute to our nations. Often we have destroyed countries, making them politically unstable and poor forcing the citizens to search for a better future. Humanity it appears is in decline.

Indeed, Robin! We are a species that often acts to bring about our collective end. Still, we are a species still capable of that transcendent virtue: hope.
