Stunning Contrasts on a Summer Day: A #TankaTuesday #TankaProse

a cool summer breeze

a time to sow or to reap

every moment

I lay my burden down

to pick it up again

The last taste of burgundy rests in the well of a used wine glass. She strolls the garden after rinsing something in the sink. Maple leaves flutter in the woosh of this passing wind.

Somewhere north of Hartford, Conneticut, my son and his boy scout troop close out another day at scout camp.

Meanwhile, somewhere north of the southern US border, a mother cries–wondering whether she’ll ever see her children again. Somewhere else, her children ask for her again and again.

a lit barbeque

another year in the life

as a school year ends

while others experience

what I could never bear

Yes. Exactly. As others experience what we could never bear. Perfectly said.

What heartbreak for both children and parents. Cruelty that is unthinkable merely to deter other hopeful immigrants. Trust no one that hurts a child.

Like how you’ve woven thoughts together… personal, political… that kind of a summer’s day!

The contrast is devastating. The more we compare, the more horrible the treatment of those children become.

Heart wrenching poem. I hope children donot have to bear the burden of the wrong doings of their parents.

Some things are hard to imagine.. i think of the rights of parents, ones I have taken for granted all my life, and how some ‘authority’ might step in and strip me of them… none of us should be complacent in our own backyards.

I really like this Frank. I am overwhelmed by it all. I keep waitng for the end. The fear those kids must feel, no one should have to go through. Nice work.

That contrast… so heartbreaking. Yet we should not blame ourselves for our small comforts.

Frank, I LOVED your prose and your poetry. This is what I’m talking about. We can use our poetic voices to draw attention to the pain in this world. Well done. Now, I’m off to cry for the pain I feel for the children and the families. ❤
