I made this tanka after reading “The Chords of the universe” on Aeon, which is written about the relations between music and mathematics.  This article reminded me of a friend of mine who had loved rock-music.  About the photo, I took it while walking.

「宇宙の和音」”The chords of the universe” 


※ 山法師(ヤマボウシ)は、中央の球状の花序が僧侶の頭のように、そのまわりの4枚の白い総苞片が僧侶の頭巾のように見えるので、山法師と名づけられたといわれます。

Yamaboushi is “cornus kousa” in the academic name and its English name is Japanese dogwood. When it is translated literally, it is Mountain Bonze. It is said that cornus kousa is called Yamaboushi because the round inflorescence in the center 

looks like the head of a monk and four pieces of white involucre around the inflorescence looks like the hood of a monk.

The roses in the photo are called “Tatsuko-Hime”. The species has been grown on a test in Akita Prefectural Museum of Agricultural Science, so it is very rare and not sold…
