We don’t play often. Sure, Mira asks anytime the weather is comfortable, without too much balm or chill. I’m usually the one that refuses. But not today.
She rolls her hips, steps into her toss. With a snap of her elbow and a perfect release, she looses the blue frisbee toward me. I keep my eyes on it, a spinning disk closing fast. Planting my feet, I thrust my arms up, hands open, and catch it above my head. Then it’s my turn to toss it toward our son.
Who watches it noncommitally, as it drops out of his reach. Then gives me that look he reserves for my Dad jokes. At least he picks it up and tosses it in the general direction of his mother.
After a few misfires, we hit our stride. Volley follows volley. Mira laughs in delight. Frankie even cracks a smile or two. I grin, even through the tightening sensation in my rotor cuff.
There we are, a family fooling around with a frisbee on an April Fool’s afternoon. There’s a poem waiting to celebrate such small, sacred moments. There are whole worlds to explore there.

It is amazing how such a simple thing IS sacred now, in the face of so much uncertainty. We have been taught not to take anything for granted any more, by this pandemic. This is beautiful, Frank. I love the glance reserved for dad jokes, lol.

I haven’t played with a frisbee for years, haven’t seen one either, and had forgotten how much fun they can be. Thanks for reminding me, Frank – and that ‘even during pandemics / life goes on’!

You captured this moment perfectly, Frank. It’s little snapshots like these that we keep in our hearts. Life–and spring–does go on, despite everything.

Thank you for this. It made me a little melancholy because my family is far away and I miss those sacred moments with my daughter, her husband and my grandkids. Luckily my husband and I create some sacred moments during our walks, our cooking, just time together is sacred.

Frank, I LOVE this! I am right there with you, watching this scene unfold, the rolling of the eyes of your son as he watches the toss land away from him…like that reserved for dad jokes. Perfect! And these words “There’s a poem waiting to celebrate such small, sacred moments. There are whole worlds to explore there.” Just wonderful. Yes…even in the midst of Covid19 the robins come out and scurry about and spring is born outside. Well done!
PS: I am not a technical guru! Did not understand how to link my posts to Toad until today, day 4…so just getting caught up! sigh

Love the peacefulness and feeling of normalcy about this, even under non-peaceful, uneasy times.
