Looking ahead:

It’s a beautiful day in “New York’s backyard.” Late afternoon sun warms my back, while gentle breezes stir the ubiquitous maple leaves. The forecast calls for a whole weekend of delightful, summertime weather like this.

As I’m feeling adventurous today, I thought we would do something different. This week, you choose your own Kigo!

Below is a link to one of my trade secrets: my source for kigo:

The Five Hundred Essential Season Words (Summer)

Choose which one you want, as long as it’s for summer. (If you live south of the equator, feel free to scroll up and use the one for winter, if you choose).

Write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to the summer (or winter) kigo that you select from The Five Hundred Essential Season Words.

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Happy kigo hunting, haijin!

    Hi Frank,
Check out the photo in this ping back of mine for the above challenge… See the similarity on this week’s challenge? How did that happen? I don’t mind you using it, but say something.

Oh, my, Pat! I am so sorry! I honestly thought that was a photo my son took of Rockland State Park!

I’ll change it immediately. Thank you for letting me know, and please accept my apologies.

      Hi Pat,

I changed the photo in this week’s #Haikai challenge. I honestly had not realized that I was using your photo. I would have asked your permission first, had I intended to use yours. Again, my deepest apologies.
