有明の月むかふるは妙雲の間にひかへます鳥海の峰
awaiting in
a beauteous white cloud―
the summit of
Mt. Chokai does meet
the moon at daybreak
2.
刻々と秋は近きか早緑のやさしき棘の毬栗なづる
moment by moment
autumn is coming
I touch
the soft thorn,
yellow-green chestnut
3.
朝日照り羊歯の葉末の露無きに残暑にうだる一日をおもふ
because
there is no dew on fern’s leaves
in the morning sun
I think of a day sweltering
in the lingering heat
4.
めくるめく草生の蜘蛛は銀糸はり木末(こぬれ)の陰に光呼びたり
dazzling…
spiders in bushes weaving
gossamer threads
call for the sparkling sun-rays
behind the branches
5.
秋雷はにはか轟き風をよぶ気のあやしきが家路は遠し
unexpectedly
autumn thunder arrives
and invites the wind…
worrying about unstable air
my way is long to home
6.
ねむられぬ一夜はあけて露ふかき稲穂にすだくこおろぎの歌
after
passing a wakeful night…
crickets gathering
in the rice field with deep dew
sing songs before harvest
7.
秋虫は二音四音に玲玲と響きつくして季(とき)の和音かな
autumn insects make
a seasonal chord with two
and four beats
playing the sound of ring-ring
