Ultreya!

We have all endured the desert that is the year 2020. The ultimate week of the year has come, at last! Tonight, as an opener to the celestial festivities of the year’s close, 2020’s last full moon arrives: the cold moon of December. Grab a blanket, or put another log on the fire.

This new year’s eve promises to be a sedate one for House Tassone. The family plans no large gatherings, so we’re likely to make our New Year’s celebration a quiet one at home. Somehow, I don’t think we are alone in that.

Nevertheless, the promise of 2021 beckons. The distribution of new vaccines continues. While COVID-19 cases continue to spike, we can hope that the heart of this second wave soon breaks.

Here’s to a new year, then. Let us celebrate by writing the haikai poem of our choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that allude to either Cold Moon (fuyu no tsuki), New Year’s Eve (toshi no yo), or New Year’s Day (ganjitsu).

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Have a very Happy New Year, haijin!
