Consistency has proved elusive lately. Gaps in routine writing, the long delay since the last challenge: Let’s just say riding the dragon has involved more than a few buckings and roasts. Nevertheless, here I am, getting back in the saddle again.

April has passed into May, and only a week left in the latter month. As May is traditionally a summer month, this is also another time of transition. Today’s weather in New York’s backyard—and Wednesday’s predicted high—feel like summer. The maple and locus trees have fully reawakened; the backyard is again a forest meadow.

What a glorious time for some #haikai!

Challenge #DateKigo
#1864/10Skylark
#1874/17International Haiku Day
#1884/24Pink Moon
#1895/1Cool
#1905/8Mother’s Day
#1915/15South wind
#1925/22Flower Moon

Select the date and kigo you like, then write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc) that alludes to your selection.

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Enjoy this late Spring/ Early Summer (or late Autumn/Early Winder), haijin. May you find your stride walking the path!
