#Haiku Happenings #4: Jules’ latest #haibun for my current #haikai challenge!

Patrol

We watched as the snow storm swept by. We waited, some on
patrol – ever ready to come to the aid of those who might become
stranded on the highways behind jackknifed tractor trailers or need
assistance because of downed power lines.

We were warned to stay off the road ways. Schools and services
shut down – all precautionary. And yet we are not yet done. As yet
another blast of cold northern air threatens our already weak spirits.

The deer, mink and fox venture further from the wood seeking to
scavenge. Also teased by a few warm days, a pair of robins thought
to start nest building. Even the plants seem to have had enough –
winter, some blooming just when they should, tease us all with color
that has been lacking.
