#Haiku Happenings #4: Jules’ #haibun for my current #haikai challenge!

Living with Alice?
(haibun)

The bewildering onslaught of rain has us all seeing security. We wonder
if the rate of absorption will allow us to get out at all – the nearby roadways
are still noticeably saturated. Is there cause to raise an alarm? Will we have
to wear parkas in spring? How will the creek banks tolerate the abrasion
of soil? Keep that matchbook handy or the battery operated torch in case
the power goes out!

Adults wonder which gods may have been offended. As there will be no
sun for most of the week. Children in their warm classrooms may exhibit
an Alice in Wonderland Syndrome while forming semi-circles by windows
– their sullen faces, distorted reflection in the glassy grey.
