I once had an owlet in my yard during the day. And have since learned that owls have round eggs.
After a storm I saw around egg floating in the creek… I thought it might have been a snapping turtle egg as they are also round, but the turtle egg is only the size of a quarter where the owl’s can be quite spherical as in this link http://vis.sciencemag.org/eggs/
The egg could have been a Hawk owl egg. I guess though I may never be quite sure.

Owls do have to eat too.
