Frank J. Tassone Haikai Challenge #46 – Fire

US-FIRE-CALIFORNIA

power of fire
the battle lost by some men
many tears are wept

the cries of the mountain’s scorch
and the trees that stand no more

as it rages on
homes, victims of its wrath
souls, unsure, displaced

let tears be prayers to heaven
a greater force than fire

man now humbled low
to appreciate what’s gone
let memory stand

spirits rise from burned bodies
may they ne’er be forgotten
