Today we ask that women be recognised as having the same rights as men. That’s all, not to be Wonder Woman or Emma Stone. Maybe tomorrow we could ask that poor people have the same rights as the rich, the same opportunities, the same rights to a comfortable existence. Maybe the next day we could accept that the potential of a child is not in proportion to the wealth of its parents. Maybe the day after we could ask that all weapons from nuclear warheads to hand guns be destroyed. And the day after that to give animals the same rights are human beings.

The day that women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, heads held high, not bent submissively in prayer or deference, that there are no more obscenely rich or obscenely poor, no more living with guns held to our heads, that we value compassion and integrity more…
