Midsummer is the theme of this week’s Haikai Challenge. Where I live, in Ontario, the approaching summer solstice (June 21) is the first official day of summer. In some traditions the solstice is considered a time of ‘midsummer’ celebrations. Under ‘midsummer’ Wikipedia mentions many traditions worldwide.

It has started to feel like summer here. Though I haven’t turned the air conditioning on and we still enjoy fresh air through open windows, the earth is beginning to sizzle. I love the soft sizzle sound when watering the garden on hot summer days.
