Her journey brought her to the first stone. That’s where the tracks ended. Where the wolves went, she does not yet know. Except for the line of stones the veld was devoid.

The wizened woman, the waif, told her this is where she would … ‘’This is where … this is … this …’’

Tired and at a loss she scanned the horison while dusk ‘’ … be there at dusk. There’ll be wind … The wind …’’ still at the first stone the earth’s turning became a physical sensation; she nearly fell … the wind blew all words and thoughts to flatten the grass and she knew to walk the line of stones to the end to

welcome
