Past, Present, Futures? (solo renga series)

how far to travel

to help friends in need? to see

robin’s egg blue sky?

clean the dirty window there?

or keep ’em covered; no glare…

to reflect a ‘tell’

to spill the beans on cards held?

big black dog smokes; chokes?

don’t clean the dirty window

don’t want no one to be seen

the news never tells

the whole of both sides; we hide

behind others’ words

dirty window could be good

blocks the view of the vice squad

sepia photos

hold the past in deep brown tones

was it safer then?

watch that window could get broke

when they raid this friendly place

don’t whine too loud now

this song lacks a chorus, man

jazz don’t need foolin’

city window, or country

behind any, are we safe

robin’s egg blue walls

no photo glass to reflect

the cards that we draw…
