#Haiku Happenings #2: Reena’s latest #haibun for Carpe Diem!
A long-raging controversy on bamboo being a grass or tree ends today. The Government has modified the Indian Forest Act and classified bamboo as a type of grass.
My botanist husband, having supported the opposite notion, is not looking too happy. He still thinks it is political and business convenience, and not a result of scientific research. So be it. The furniture I manufacture needs bamboo as raw material, and this change ends the control of the Forest Department on the resource. The farmers who grow it, now own it, and it certainly makes my work easier.
He drops his Botanist mask and asks, “How much difference does it make to your material cost and revenue?” I look surprised, but he is smiling.
