s 10.14 grasping at straw / haikai 55/ haiku series | Jules Longer Strands of Gems

#Haiku Happenings #4: Jules’ latest haiku sequence for my current #haikai challenge!

grasping at straw

from a favorite
author, a ray of sunshine
that scarecrow’s smile

the one from Baum’s Oz
who danced in living color
that scarecrow’s smile

gave me confidence;
I too, could find a brain, joy –
that scarecrow’s smile

from school and study
despite those who thought I lacked
that scarecrow’s smile

a moody child who,
judged unfairly dared to dream;
that scarecrow’s smile

broke through their false walls
of low expectations; found
that scarecrow’s smile

hung to happiness,
gained independence ‘cause of
that scarecrow’s smile
