#Haiku Happenings #1 (12/7/19): Janice’s latest haiku Inspired by my November with Basho!
Smoke of burning leaves and pine cones drew me on, touching something deep inside. Then the moon rose, shining on the sea, day turned suddenly to night.
~Matsuo Basho, “Narrow Road to the Interior” translated by Sam Hamill
the sweet smell of woodsmoke
from down the road
The Basho quote is excerpted from Frank Tassone’s day 10 selection for November with Basho. I’m plodding far behind with Frank’s November tour through Basho’s “Narrow Road to the Interior”. This haiku came to me on Thursday night when I stepped outside. My savouring of woodsmoke is a somewhat guilty pleasure as I am aware we don’t need more particulates in the atmosphere.
