Haibun: Rising

The Master’s tale of the the underground cave. The sun asks the cave to come up to the light but the cave response is one of bewilderment. He has no idea of light having lived all his life in the darkness of the underground. Mustering courage he eventually climbs up . At the open top of the cave he basks in the sunshine of the expanse before him. He is grateful for the invitation offered by the sun for him to come and enjoy this wonderful scene. In exhilaration the cave suggests that the sun itself should come now to see his darkness. The sun enters the cave but is bewildered for it cannot see the darkness of which the cave speaks.
