Carpe Diem #1842 End Of Year

New Year’s Eve
day spent cleaning house
clearing out
planning for a brighter year
leaving baggage behind

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a minute after midnight
my spouse bundles up warmly
takes treats for stray cats
cold air spilling in door
a mixture of sadness and hope
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

NewYear’s Day
a squirrel shakes his tail
at the rain

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First rain fall
attempting to wash away
melancholy year
