Opportunist waits
Poised and ready to take flight
Mission accomplished

The banquet is prepared. The flutter of wings heralds the arrival of my black-garbed guests. Sparrows pick at fallen crumbs, but the lion’s share will go to the jackdaws. They are fascinating to watch…crafty, stealthy, pouncing and departing with their chosen morsels. Watching them, I realise something I have always known, bur never noticed… the French verb voler means both to steal and to fly… and the jackdaws are masters of both.
