#Tanka Tuesday 10/24/17…as Halloween comes…

Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge poses the prompts “Eerie” and “Costume.” So appropriate, with Halloween around the corner. See if you can guess which short story inspired this tanka:

Eerie moonlit mist

guest in a red death costume

at the masquerade

how many tomorrows will come

before the clock’s final gong?

UPDATE: for dVerse Poets Pub’s Tuesday Poetics, too!

Good question about the number of remaining tomorrows.

Thanks, Frank. Isn’t it amazing how so many of us presume we have so many?

Indeed, we were on the same wavelength! I like the sharp, to the point style.

Hmmm – quite Poe-etic! (My kiddos will be reading Cask next week – bwahahaha!)

Just coming from Charley and leaving the name of the author in the comment I knew immediately. I have spent many sleepless nights with the memory of this story.

I always think of Gibran and a segment of his work from The Prophet, On children, where tomorrows are concerned.
“For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.”
Everyone’s tomorrows are limited, we just don’t know how much so.

One may not wish to be thinking too much on returning to our Maker as one is very much saddled with daily chores!
