The Renewal of an Apocalyptic Affair: a #NaPoWriMo2020 / #GloPoWriMo2020 #haibun

1796 painting “Death on a Pale Horse” artist depiction of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Source: VortBot / Public Domain.

A simple carass, and your coughing begins. The slightest of kisses, and you become corpses frozen in the ice. I, the corruption of your so vulnerable flesh, wither you to your last wheeze.

So like the old days, when I meandered across manure-stinking villages and filth-ridden cities, savoring the warmth of their breath. Thanatos and I rode together, back then. And why not?

Who else but we luxuriate when they die?

I will not apologize for all of those blackened bodies, those lives we stole together. Nor will I apologize now, as we ravage you anew. I had to reconcile with him, you see. Ti eรญnai o loimรณs chorรญs thรกnato?

What is Pestilence without Death?

    A very profound work.
I’m doing the NaPoWriMo and April PAD challenge too. I used to participate fairly frequently with the Real Toads prompts, but there’s one participant there whom I just can’t abide. Kudos for taking on all three challenges!
I apologize if this is a duplicate comment. WordPress and I don’t get along and I never know if it’s eating my comments or sending them to a moderation queue.

These certainly do seem like Apocalyptic times.

All the grim feel of the ride of the Four, and full of unwelcome truths; there is indeed no pestilence without Death, no identity for that Pale Rider without the Reaper beside him. I especially like the short verse at the end of the (?) haibun (??) Forgive my ignorance if this is some other form. A chilling ride, and one we all share these days.

Thank you for your feedback. This poem is, indeed, a haibun. The short verse at the end is the haiku.

The imagery brewed out of the idea of going from kiss to corpse is quite vivid.
