Weird Wisdom?

The man at the Al-Anon meeting celebrated 25 years of recovery. His simple eloquence inspired us. His was a testament to the power of ordinary living through serenity, courage, and wisdom–the fruit of integrating extraordinary grace. But it was what he did before he sat down from speaking that remains.

He lifted up the 25-year coin he just received, then said, “If you want to keep it, you have to give it away.”

And he did, handing it to a new member, who had arrived that night for the first time.

    That haiku/senryu is powerful!

Very wise but I think the closing senryu would pack a bigger punch if you omitted the first line.

Perhaps. But then, where would the paradox be? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think the reader is wise enough to see it implied.

That’s good advice Frank. Similar to what a friend once told me: Never lend anything you expect to get back. (K)
