Moving forward!

They say April showers bring May flowers. The recent warm spell in the American Northeast bears this out. But what happens when the April showers return in May?

It rains outside my house right now. An overcast sky shows no sign of parting anytime soon. Steady rainfall bathes the backyard. Still the birds sing, sheltering under the thickest of the new leaves that emerged this past week. The rain showers ride a front of cooler air. It’s almost chilly in the house. This departure of the recent warm weather reminds me that south of the Equator, Autumn has begun.

Therefore, this week, let our kigo be Spring rain (harusame) or Autumn rain (aki no ame). Write the haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga or other haikai poem of your choice that states or alludes to Spring rain (harusame) or Autumn rain (aki no ame.)

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Stay dry, haijin. And Happy Mother’s Day

I posted my poem this morning before I saw your prompt. How did the Magnetic Poetry Oracle know “spring rain” was going to be your kigo this week? She really does know everything!

I looked at the weather for this week in my area. Only Monday is supposed to be without rain!
Glad I at least mowed the front yesterday, after some rain (that area drains well enough).
The back may need a hacking with a machete.

I mixed to prompts with Mother’s Day for:
    great mother – earth

So even though the Oracle knew about this prompt before I did, I wrote another and linked it. 🙂

[…] Today Lillian at dVerse invites us to write any kind of poem incorporating two or more brand names. I chose the chocolate category: Chuckles (chuckling rain), Mounds (mounds of straw), Twix (be-twixt) and Kit-Kat (kitty cat). I folded these references into a haibun about my current experience of spring. I am also linking to Haikai Challenge #33: spring rain. […]

Me thinks this weather will provide an abundance of entries since ‘it’ll’ be hang and banging about all week!
(I can’t get to that fallen limb yet as there is still a light rain falling.)
    Here’s my third… harusame (iii)
