Steller Joy: A #TankaTuesday (on a Wednesday) #tankaprose (5/16/18)

“Mary, full of grace,”

so did the angel proclaim

But what victory

did you contemplate gazing

upon the milky way?

Is there a moment more sublime? Lao Tzu counseled those troubled at heart, whom thought the universe agitated, to look out at the stars. I followed his advice many nights. Too often, I strained past light pollution to glimpse more than a morsel of steller serenity.

But once, deep in the countryside of Vermont, I looked upon a naked night sky. Oh, what cascades of joy! A cacaphony of constellations in which my teary eyes swam. I breathed in the bliss, smiling.

a fresh crowning to begin

another spring

Daylight silences Mars

to nourish fresh greenery

I once saw that sky, from an island where the only light was from a campfire. It was astonishing!

I want to get to a place where you can gaze at stars… the north is not a good place for stars unless you want to freeze

Wonderful nightly moments. Also love how you’ve sketched the silent existence of the stars in daylight. Beautiful.

In our earlier days we did a lot of tent camping. In fact, those were the only vacations we took pre-children and with our children. To me, two of the many many wonderful things about tent camping were waking up to smelling coffee burbling over the fire (my husband always got up first in those days) and sitting out, after the embers are almost burned down in the camp fire, and staring up at the night sky.
I especially liked the geographical placement here in this line
“But once, deep in the countryside of Vermont, I looked upon a naked night sky.” Anyone who has experienced the beauty of Vermont can relate to this so well.
So very glad you posted to the prompt, Frank!

It sometimes takes getting away from the urban light to see the serenity of the night.

Frank, I love this Haibun with double Tankas! WOW! Deeply personal observations that enlighten all of us! That last Tanka was powerful – I LOVE this line: “Daylight silences Mars…” Splendid imagery! ❤
