Jedi Games

I remember the darkened aisle of the UA theater filled to capacity. Dad and I found our seats just as C3PO raised his golden hand over his head, crying, “Help! Please”–and then R2D2 rolled down a rocky trail between canyon walls, and into a jawa ambush. Not yet 7-years-old, I watched “Star Wars” for the very first time, and it was love at first sight.

Four decades later, I fulfilled a childhood yearning by playing my own Jedi Knight character in BioWare and Lucusfilm’s Star Wars: the Old Republic. Oh, the shear joy of swinging light sabers at enemies, riding speeder bikes, and exploring the diverse worlds of the Galaxy. It was only the blurring of play and life that eventually brought my gamesmanship to an early retirement.

Now, an even better game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, arrives on the market this March 17th–St Patrick’s Day (in which many engage in a wholly different style of play). I feel the urge to test limits and once again indulge in that luscious Jedi play that still whispers to me.

Frank I love how you describe seeing Star Wars as a young lad at the theater with your dad. Video games are the one thing I like to play but I can only manage the simpler ones anymore. Those controllers with buttons all over them are too much coordination demand. Sounds like your games take it even farther with the light saber. Fun way to play.

It would be wonderful, but I fear it would still be a disappointment, that first experience is too hard to beat
