The email from my co-teacher came at 1:30. A writing assignment for our 11th grade ELA class, with a request for scaffolded organizers. An email I didn’t read until just before my 1:57 class.

It’s 2:40, and instead of going home, I’m crafting organizers. Simple enough to revise the RACEAS one we already use. A more creative challenge is crafting a new one that incorporates similar structures, but with different names and guiding presentations. It’s that last one that takes the most effort: a sentence-starter organizer.

Of course, the photo-copier jams at the beginning of the second set of copies. Ms. R notices that the machine made copies without toner—a miracle on a par with lamps burning without oil! Shortly after clearing one, another occurs. Then another. & another! One requires the most challenging paper extraction of my 28+ years of education—and Xerox machine unclogging! One last jam as the last copy prints, and at last, I’m done. Save for the stapling.
