Low

Was it the two disturbances by the same two students in the same day? The campus evacuation caused by an alleged buring of a light? The relentless underperformance from the usual suspects? The heavy atmosphere of a week’s worth of rainclouds? The existential abrasion of yet another work week?

Or just a combination of the above?

Your ending made me smile. The path to redemption sometimes does lie in a bottle of wine.

Great buildup in this haibun, Frank.

Well….if you were sitting here with me you would have heard an audible sighed ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh come from me at the end of reading this. The haiku, in particular, says it all! Well done!

So much said in so few words.

Frank, having worked with at-risk juveniles — and their parents — for close to 20 years (2000-2018) your poem resonates with me. A friend once told me (on another matter, but it fits) “look for small movements.” Those small movements will shine like gems and the rest won’t be quite as draining.

A hard day’s work, and only time will tell its ultimate answers and/or rewards: in the short run, that “bottle of red” – Wonderful haibun.

Whatever the problem, sometimes the only solution/diversion is a bottle of red.
