First Sleepover: a #ThrowdownThursday .@ImageCurve #haibun

Frankie hugs us tightly. As he lets go, his eyes hold back a hint of tears, the ones that betray the hesitancy we all share.

“Ok. Goodbye,” he says.

He and his friend Stephan get in a silver SUV. Nora, the boy’s mother, finishes adjusting bags in the bay.

As the SUV pulls away, I wonder: Who misses whom more?

Such a sweet moment, Frank! I’d forgotten about sleepovers and can’t remember the first one, it’s so long ago. I love the poignant touch in
    ‘a teary view of those
    shrinking taillights’.

Missing someone doesn’t always happen at the same time for all people involved. Nice description with the teary view of the shrinking taillights.

Like the implication of spring and tears… You never say Rain, but it is there.

A window into a sweet and poignant moment in time. The sentiment hit home.

Yes, that first sleep-over is difficult. Like so many other things, we want to, but just a little uncertain.

I love this… having just visited my sister for my niece’s graduation I can feel that the day where these sleepovers are as natural as anything… and where it led. Some of her sleepover friends from childhood were partying friends these days.
