Moving on…

The Equinox is upon us at last. Autumn officially arrives. That means the traditional time of harvest is upon us! Grapes, apples, pumkins and other crops will be reaped. And the celebrations will ensue!

Mira and I, for example, visited the Robibero winery in New Paltz, New York today. The vineyard’s two-day grape harvest festival featured grape stomping, among other delights. As Mira grew up on a farm in Portugal–and actually stomped grapes in a true grape tub as a child–we forbore purpling our feet. Instead, we purchased a pair of Rabbit’s Feet, the vineyard’s table wine, and ate our crackers and cheese, pasta and artichoke heart salad and homemade chicken empenadas while listening to the band Run for Cover.

After eating and drinking our fill, we strode around, then sat by the winery’s fire pit. How’s that for celebrating the grape harvest?

This brings us to our heterodox kigo for the week. Write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to or references harvest. It can be any kind, or the concept itself.

As always:

Hereโ€™s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributorsโ€™ posts.

Reap a great harvest, haijin!

First – Thanks for a year (52) of wonderful prompts. (I might yet get to those few I missed at the very beginning).

Second – Looks like you had a wonderful time! Earlier this month my hubby and I did a dining car ride to Paradise (PA) on a (yep) over cast rainy day.

    Third – here’s my haibun:
