“Let there be a little country
without many people…”
–Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, rendition by Ursula K. Le Guin
Oh, if only there were a land where people truly loved their neighbor as themselves. Yes, a land where people embodied the golden rule. What need would such a land have for -arch of any kind? Even democracy would not serve a people whom needed no government, not even one by even themselves.
Ah, a land where the people lay their goods at each other’s feet, so that each receives what she needs, and no one complains that others have more, or they, not enough. Yes, such a land could only go by the name paradise.
Small wonder that the Ancient Greeks named such a perfect place Utopia.
“Nowhere.”
