Ultreya!

The end of February is upon us. March Madness lay ahead! Whether contending with NCAA Tournament brackets or even more Gemani-esque weather, we can expect sudden change.

Winter may continue in the Northern Hemisphere, but it begins to cede temperature to the warmth of the coming Spring. The early Spring Kigo “Thin Ice” (usurai) captures the essence of this.

The lakes may still be frozen. But watch your step crossing them! The ice thins with each uptick of the mercury! My walkways, frozen during a midweek snowstorm, thawed in two days of abover-freezing temperature. May that trendline continue!

This week, write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to Thin Ice (usurai).

As always:

Here’s how the challenge works:

1. write the haikai poem of your choice.
2. post the link of your post to Mister Linky.
3. pingback by posting the link to the challenge on your site.
4. read and comment on other contributors’ posts.

Mind your step out there, haijin!

Even when the weather changes… some of us will always be cold or is that just ‘old’.
