A Natural Indifference: a #quadrille #haibun

Parched ground. searing sun. The cacti’s collective yawn. What is a few more degrees to them? Their fibers hoard their water. Their needles guard their excess against the unwary consumer.

Why would they care about climate change?

They are hardy plants – they’ll survive. Those unpredictable storms can be terrifying.

‘The cacti’s collective yawn’ says it all, Frank! They can withstand anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the last plants on the planet.

Lately I have discovered that cactus is pretty good to eat in a spicy stew.

I am amazed too.. we have a cactus in a pot we’ve had for years outdoors in Sweden… and in summer it blooms.
