The Emptiness of Envy

Photo by Sasha Martynov on Pexels.com

envious stare …

on the neighbor’s lawn

greener grass

sudden scarcity compared

to another’s abundance

still water …

the promise of hope

in a new day

why all of the sighing

and sleeves wet with fresh tears?

windchime melody

and birdsong harmony …

a day’s simple peace

still the gnawing sorrow

at another’s joy?

sunlight on your face

that welcome warmth on your face …

an unopened gift

seeing a clear sky

through an unwarrented blur

I loved the opening haiku. It is so masterful it made me chuckle with that kind of rueful laugh you give when something reminds you of your own behaviour. ๐Ÿ™‚
