Dawn
and the threshold awaits
that crossing
all the preparation
and still the fear
The bridge awaits. The River, so placid today, indifferently reflects the rising arc of the joined stones. I shudder before the threshold. The bystanders at my back stand their ground. This is my journey, to commence with my first step upon the stones.
What will I find on the other side? What will any of us? The bridge awaits, but I can wait no more.
The first step falls.
still morning air
another slice of life
to devour
crossing the ultimate
threshold, at last

Beautifully written, Frank. This form suits the message in the poem so well.

Oh this is utterly stunning! ❤️ I guess it all comes down to a leap of faith in the end 🙂 May we be courageous enough to cross the bridge .. and embrace all that awaits on the other side. ❤️

I think this is a sort of bridge we’d be happy to cross as children but think twice about (maybe three times!) as an adult and never at my age! I can remember crossing a very wobbly suspension bridge a few years ago in my 70’s…I think that was my last daring deed! Beautifully written Frank.

” This is my journey,” So very true. Crossing over towards the unknown definitely needs much courage. Nice.

Gorgeous poem and new bridges are daring but growth is guaranteed

Isn’t it an odd symmetry that the same image of the bridge works for more life and for death? I tremble before that step, waiting no more.
