Smuggs ’14 Chronicle, Day 12: August 5, 2014 (my latest .@ImageCurve #haibun)

lodge

Our self-guided Wike begins with soggy sneakers. Our path emerges from wet, high grasses near the driveway to Mountain Laurels. We find a path to Notchville Park and take the loop down to the Reservoir. Turning back and ascending the steep hill, we reach Morse Mountain Lodge. There, our way continues up Wire Road, named for the fancy of mine-owner Morse’s wife. She wanted a telephone, so his workers ran the wire. We reach a brook that cascades into falls. Turning left at a junction, we cross a bridge. Mira remembers it.

“It’s where we break on the Morse Mountain hike.”

Frankie takes the first bounce and screams. Higher and higher, he goes, rebounding off of the trampoline, secured by bungie cords attached to a harness and a hydraulic arm. He does a flip.

The attendant says, “That will tire him out.”

I answer, “Do more.”

up and down towering above him ancient pines

Our trip to Family Karaoke ends with he and I playing life-size chess. We Call it a draw on account of drizzle.

Thanks, Jane. It was more of a light hike, but I appreciate you being there! 😀

It is, indeed, Jane! The Green Mountains of Vermont live up to their name. And across from nearby Lake Champlain? New York’s Adirondack Mountains!

Vermont was a place I always wanted to visit as a kid, based on old Hollywood movies 🙂

LOL! If you want to visit a place based on old Hollywood movies, head to where we went this year: Sedona, AZ. Red Rock country–stunningly beautiful. The area served as a locale for the Jimmy Stewarr Western “Broken Arrow.” It’s become the signature tour of the signature Jeep touring company in the area, Pink Jeep Tours! 🙂

Too big. I like to be able to walk, pick up stones, look at the flowers. The idea of a tour in a jeep sets my teeth on edge. I know, Vermont’s too big too, but at the time, I didn’t know that 🙂

Things I will never do- bungee jumping and karaoke. I’m up for life size chess, though.

Thanks for the Wike, Frank! I enjoyed exploring the curvaceous landscape with you. I really like the one-line haiku, too, especially the one with the blue jays.
