12/21/19: Gerry Muse (#186)

The sun just set behind the Ramapo Mountains. Pink hues on passing cumulus light up after the last golden haze recedes from view. The shortest day of the year transitions to evening twilight. Soon, the longest night begins.

Our Christmas tree lights illuminate the enshadowed living room. Before long, the outside lights on the front hedge will ignite, too.

“It is better to light a candle then curse the darkness,” goes the proverb. Small wonder that the earliest Christians celebrated the birth of the Light of the world four days after the winter Solstice

Reconciliation

our brightening lights

amidst the gathering dark

as we celebrate our hope
