
When is the virtual more vital than the real?
When social distancing is the order of the day. When the well-meant gathering makes us accessories after the fact to infecting others. When we need to isolate in the real to deprive Corona its breeding ground.
NYC schools begin remote learning this Monday. 1.1 million school children will learn virtually. Our own school has a departmental schedule to follow, consisting of outreach, preparation, and monitoring of student work completed using google classroom. We plan our activities this week for the roll-out.
Yes, for some, the lure of the real proves too inticing. Full beaches and bars (when they were open) attest to that. But however unreal, the virtual offers us community in a time of solitude.
We are only as alone as we want to be.
