Summer Vacation began with the sudden end of the Google Meet Faculty Conference. The bird songs in the backyard carried on. Leaves fluttered in a passing summer breeze, while sun from a clear sky bathed the lawn in gold.

The first week passed. Writing continued. Witnessing continued. Then we broke our routine with a short vacation to Cape Cod. Rhythmic surf on turf, with sea breezes that chilled. Mask-wearing crowds meandered up and down P-Town’s Commercial Street. I ate three varieties of codfish preparation at three different restaurants.

The day after we returned home, Tropical Storm Fay showered us in hours of rain. Stirring winds rustle the topmost leaves, as an overcast sky warns of the next storms to come.
