A “yes” in answer to a divine calling. A sword piercing her heart ever after.
A heart in which she pondered all she experienced. A heart that breaks as she holds the corpse of her crucified son. A heart immaculate after a rolled-away stone.
A heart enthroned after an ultimate divine summons.
“Blessed are you
among women, and blessed
the Fruit of your womb…”

Wow! I got shivers reading the tanka, Frank. I looked up the “Annunciation” for greater clarity.
Wikipedia says: “The Annunciation is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Jewish messiah and Son of God, marking His Incarnation.”
What a great philosophical question your tanka leaves us with – a curse to know what will happen to your child and you have no say in the matter. Powerful questions to make us think. You’ve outdone yourself, my friend.
