Confessions of a Hue: a #haibun

I embody it. Yes, ever-yielding, always giving way: Nonetheless, I conquer.

Ask the Appalachia. They towered over Everest once. Until I fell, storm after storm, for aeons. Now, their rounded peaks, bent like geriatric backs, no longer stab the blue above.

Ever the softest, yet even the diamond-hard surrenders to me.

I break your heart.

Yes, he embraced another. Yes, she left you. Yes, they were never yours. Feel that emptiness, where you once were overflowing.

A 12-bar, common-time beat, on a one-four-five pitch progression: music evolved from Negro spirituals, to become the ancestor of hip-hop, Rock ‘N Roll, and Rhythm- and…

Well, you can guess the rest.

I relax you on a summer’s day.

You lie on green grass, look up, see the shapes in the cottonballs passing across me. Have you tasted such serenity?

Be honest.

Surely, you know my name by now, don’t you?

The color and character of water in all of its power and majesty. It’s a color we cannot do without. I like the conversational tone of this, Frank.

I love how you made it into a riddle… the force of the water and the power of grey…
