A Collective Invitation

“We are the Borg. We will add your technological and cultural distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile”

Star Trek: First Contact

You have heard our call before. Some of your best became our own.

Picard.

Janeaway.

Data.

Many times you contested our invitation.

System J-25, in your uncharted space.

Wolf 359.

Earth.

We return again, the inevitable arch of the universe. Again, you commit the futility we have warned you time and again to avoid.

We understand.

Once, we were you. Arrogant, in our ambition to improve ourselves. Earnest, in our trust in our own technological prowess. Determined, in our pursuit to reach heights unimaginable.

Ignorant of the cost to our homeworld, our civilization, ourselves. Only when faced with our own extinction did we realize the true opportunity of transcendence–and it’s ultimate cost.

We paid that price. Now, in harmony with technology—our own and that of those species we have assimilated—we ascend heights unimaginable.

We offer you that ultimate opportunity. Abandon the path of arid entropy you hurl yourselves down. Become one with us.

For we are what you were. & we are what you can never become apart from us.

We are the Borg. We will add your technological and cultural distinctiveness to our own.

Resistance is futile.

Technology has swallowed up humanity whole. The Borg once was human too. I often have the urge to abandon the smartphone, internet, etc. The convenience of it though, is too seductive. How technology try to imitate nature: I think of the underground cables (roots), on the surface the computers, phones, electricity etc (trees, plants) and how utterly we failed. In fact, in the attempt to mimic nature we’ve lost nature and sight of our true selves. We wouldn’t be able to share our poetry without it!

How poor we became: even the stars are dimmed because of the glow below. I loved the layout of this piece.
