Um Tango Doentio

Lady Pestilence knows how to party. She carassed my arms, and I felt aches radiate from my wrists, elbows and shoulders. I felt sure a change in weather would come, but that’s not what she had in mind. She grasped my hand, raised it over my head. Ever the obedient subject, I twirled for her. The aches progressed, and I soon felt a whooziness take hold.

The beat carried on. She marched me up the floor. I don’t remember giving her the rose she carried between her teeth. Just the perfectly-timed steps, our eyes locked on each others. By the time I made it home from work, I was an aged decrepet, slowly undressing. Soon I lay on my side, shivering in a sweatshirt while wrapped in a blanket.

At some point she ran her fingers across my gut. The cramping refused to relent. The quesiness escalated to constant nasea, but vomiting did not happen. I drifted in and out, a plastic-bag-lined trash pill before me. No appetite at all. & I remained a T-rex’s chew toy even into the night. By the time I arose for work, all it took was one abbreviated meditation to realize another sick day awaited.

to life

Thus do I account for my recent hiatus from writing this week. Stomach viruses are the real deal!

Ohhhh, you described the depths of being miserable while sick in that particular way sooooo well! I felt a bit of PTSD while reading it. Glad you are on the mend!

Hope the dance has ended and you left her on the dance floor. (Hope you’re feeling all better).

I love how you transposed your illness into this dramatic tale! Especially the image here, which had me smiling:

“The beat carried on. She marched me up the floor. I don’t remember giving her the rose she carried between her teeth.”

Definitely a dance I would not want to have! Great imagery. I hope you’re feeling better now, Frank (and hope you didn’t share the dance).

Only a poet such as yourself could alchemically transform pestilence into poetry – hope you are fully recovered Frank…
