Such Transience

The Cherry Blossoms that so delighted us rained down on the grass below. As more green foliage grew in, more blossoms fell to join the fallen. Only two weeks after peak bloom, not a blossom remains.

Almost 28 years ago, A 23-year-old me stepped into his first classroom as a teaching assistant in a suburban middle school’s 7th/8th grade self-contained class for students with intellectual disabilities. Suddenly, my career is a lion in winter, with two years remaining.

Even the breath of my sigh is already gone.

Yes, everything comes to an end, but as much as I enjoyed teaching, my health was suffering I had to retire earlier than expected. Yes, even the breath of my sigh had gone. Enjoy it while it lasts, Frank.

My mom was a teacher for more than 20 years. She, too, retired (early) the breath of her sigh gone.

    Hi Frank!

I love the story of the 23-year-old you. Many have written of the cherry blossom. None more poignantly than you. Thank you.
